Cleaning the ice of Lake Baikal

On April 12, 2019 in the Republic of Buryatia organized for the third time the "Clean Ice of Lake Baikal" event. 57 volunteers took part in the work, including employees and students of the Republican Ecological and Biological Center of Students, and VSGUTU students majoring in environmental engineering. As a result of the action, 25 bags of garbage were collected, and educational training was provided to the students. The goal of the "Clean Ice of Lake Baikal" campaign was not only to clean the shore of the lake, but also to conduct active educational and campaign work among the guests and participants of the "Baikal Fishing" event. Volunteers talked about the collection and processing of waste, and explained why it is important to introduce waste collection processes at Lake Baikal. There were also conversations about the rules of respect for nature, fire safety, and the “catch and release" fishing policies were promoted. “We chose the Baikal Fishing event for our action because it is one of the largest and most high-profile winter events in the region, which sets high standards and is an excellent example for organizing other events on the lake,” says Maxim Tokarev, project manager for “Save Baikal ”.
